Ping An Finance Centre

The Ping An Finance Centre is Shenzhen's defining skyscraper — a gleaming diamond-cross tower that rises 599 metres above Futian Central Business District and dominates the skyline from almost every angle in the city. It was completed in 2017 and for a time ranked as the fourth-tallest building in the world.

The observation deck on the 116th floor sits at 555 metres and offers a panorama across the entire Shenzhen basin: the Pearl River Delta to the west, Hong Kong's New Territories to the south, and the vast grid of high-rises stretching to the horizon in every direction. On clear days, the view extends to Guangzhou. A dedicated sky deck experience includes exhibitions about the city's growth. Entry is ticketed; book ahead on weekends.

A story
At 599 metres, the Ping An Finance Centre is the fifth-tallest building in the world. Its designers planned an antenna that would have pushed it above 660 metres, but aviation authorities vetoed it for interfering with Shenzhen's flight paths — leaving a blunt, flat crown that has become one of the building's most distinctive features.
