Shenzhen has a subtropical climate — hot and humid from May to September, mild and dry from October to March. The best time to visit is October to December, when temperatures sit comfortably in the low 20s (°C), humidity drops, and the air is clear enough for decent views from the Ping An Finance Centre.
Summer (June–August) is hot and wet, with regular afternoon thunderstorms and occasional typhoons. Typhoons typically pass through quickly but can disrupt transport for a day or two. Spring (March–May) brings warm temperatures but also persistent haze — visibility for skyline views is often poor.
Avoid the week of Chinese New Year (late January or early February), when much of the city shuts down as migrant workers return home. The Golden Week holidays in early October and early May bring enormous domestic tourist numbers and high hotel prices, though the city itself remains functional. Outside these peak periods, Shenzhen is a year-round destination.
