Shopping

Huaqiangbei is Shenzhen's most famous shopping destination — the world's largest electronics market, where entire floors specialise in components, phones, cables, gadgets, and knockoffs. Genuine electronics accessories are good value here; anything branded should be treated with appropriate scepticism.

Dafen Oil Painting Village is the place for art. You can commission a painted copy of almost any work — or your own photograph — at prices far below what you'd pay anywhere in Europe or North America. The quality ranges from factory-line to genuinely skilled. Spend time comparing studios before you commission anything.

Dongmen in Luohu is Shenzhen's most chaotic street market — narrow lanes packed with clothing, accessories, watches, and miscellaneous goods. It's popular with Hong Kong residents who cross the border specifically to shop here. MixC Mall (Huicheng Square) and Coco Park are the main international shopping malls in the Futian and Nanshan districts, with the usual mix of premium brands and reliable food courts.
