Shenzhen Bay Park

Shenzhen Bay Park is a long, landscaped strip of waterfront along the southern edge of Nanshan District, overlooking Shenzhen Bay and the hills of Hong Kong's New Territories across the water. It's one of the most popular recreational spaces in the city — a wide promenade with cycling paths, exercise equipment, lawns, and mangrove areas that attract migratory birds in winter.

The park is best in the early morning, when locals run, cycle, and exercise along the seafront, and in the evening, when the Hong Kong skyline glitters across the bay. The Shenzhen Bay Bridge provides a dramatic visual frame to the west.

Birdwatching here can be excellent in autumn and winter, when the bay's mudflats and mangroves host migrating waterbirds. The park is accessible from Denglianglu metro station on Line 9, or from Houhai station on Line 5.

A story
The park sits along a stretch of coastline that was reclaimed from the bay as part of Shenzhen's rapid urbanisation. On the other side of the water, the hills of Hong Kong's New Territories are clearly visible — and the Shenzhen Bay Bridge connecting the two jurisdictions runs along the edge of the park. It's one of the few places in Shenzhen where the city's relationship with Hong Kong is physically apparent.
