The Former French Legation in Guangzhouwan is one of Zhanjiang's clearest reminders of the period when the area was administered as a French leased territory. Built in 1903, it served as the main administrative office of the French colonial government.
The building now operates as a museum. It is most useful for visitors interested in Zhanjiang's unusual treaty-port and colonial history, which sets the city apart from many other ports on the South China coast.
