Getting There

Nanning is well connected by air, high-speed rail, and bus. Its proximity to Vietnam makes it a common entry or exit point for travellers doing a China-Vietnam circuit.

Nanning Wuxu International Airport handles flights from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and other Chinese cities, plus international routes to Hanoi, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur. The airport is 35 kilometres from the city centre; an express bus takes about 40 minutes and costs 20 yuan, or a taxi runs about 100 yuan.

Nanning's two high-speed rail stations — Nanning East and Nanning — connect to Guangzhou in under three hours and to Guilin in about 90 minutes. The overnight train to Hanoi departs from Nanning Railway Station, with border formalities at Youyiguan; the journey takes around 12 hours to Hanoi. This border crossing requires a Vietnamese visa arranged in advance (or obtain one at the Vietnamese consulate in Nanning on Jianzheng Road).

The main long-distance bus station near Nanning Railway Station serves destinations throughout Guangxi that lack rail coverage. Buses to Guilin, Beihai, and Guigang run frequently throughout the day.
