When to Go

Nanning has a subtropical monsoon climate — hot and wet from May through September, warm and drier from October through April. The best months are October to December, when temperatures drop to a comfortable 15–22°C, the humidity eases, and the sky actually clears occasionally. Spring (February to April) is warm but overcast and occasionally rainy; this is the time for the Zhuang people's San Yue San festival (the third day of the third lunar month), which brings folk singing competitions and traditional foods to public spaces across the city.

Summer is humid and hot, with temperatures regularly hitting 35°C and afternoon thunderstorms from June through August. It is not unpleasant, but it is not the time for extended outdoor activity. The Vietnamese consulate and the Vietnam-bound travel infrastructure work year-round.
