Guifeng Mountain is a major scenic area near Macheng in the Huanggang region, best known for its spring azalea bloom. In season, the upper slopes become a mass of red flowers, with boardwalks, viewpoints, and cable-car access making the mountain easier than it first appears.
Outside bloom season it is still a worthwhile forest-and-viewpoint outing if you are already in this part of Hubei, though the flower weeks are clearly the main event. Check transport and opening details before going, because it is a regional day trip rather than a city-centre sight.
