Eating Out

Food within the Wulingyuan park is limited, overpriced, and not worth evaluating on its merits — pack provisions for long days in the park. Zhangjiajie city and Wulingyuan village both have decent restaurants serving Hunanese cooking: the regional staples of stir-fried pork with dried chilli, tofu in various forms, and the smoked and preserved meats that are characteristic of western Hunan mountain communities. Tujia-style cooking — including the local corn liquor and smoked sausage — appears on menus near the park entrance and in the Wulingyuan village area. The strip of restaurants on the main street of Wulingyuan village, while not beautiful, serves reliable and reasonably priced food within walking distance of the park gate.
