The Hexigten Global Geopark covers roughly 1,750 square kilometres of the Chifeng backcountry and is the centrepiece of what the prefecture markets as its "geological wonder" tourism. The park's attractions range from the Arshihaty Stone Forest to volcanic basalt columns, glacier-carved lakes, and high-altitude meadows that bloom with wildflowers in late June. Dali Lake, a large freshwater body within the geopark, offers boat trips and good birdwatching along the reedy shallows.
The geopark is best explored over two or three days with a hired driver, staying overnight in the small towns within the park boundary. The roads inside are mostly paved but slow, and distances between attractions are significant. A good base is Hexigten Banner town (also called Hexigten Qi), which has several guesthouses and a small visitor centre with maps and trail information. Summer is the only practical season; the geopark receives negligible tourism in winter and some roads close after snow.
