The Garden of Cultivation is one of Suzhou's classical gardens, smaller and usually less overwhelming than the city's headline gardens. Its pleasure is in compression: water, rocks, halls, covered walks, and borrowed views arranged so a modest space keeps opening into new compositions.
It is a good choice if you already know the Humble Administrator's Garden or Tiger Hill and want Suzhou at a quieter scale. Take your time; the garden is built for slow changes of angle, not for ticking off a sight from the gate.
