Suzhou's classical gardens are its headline act — UNESCO-listed, meticulously maintained, and genuinely beautiful. Beyond the gardens, Tiger Hill rewards the short trip out of the old town, and the canal streets of the historic centre are worth wandering slowly. The city is compact enough to do most of it on foot.
