Suzhou Art Gallery shows painting and calligraphy, with an emphasis on modern Chinese art and local Suzhou artists. It is a useful stop if you want the city's artistic side without adding another classical garden to the day.
Check what is on before making a special trip, since temporary exhibitions matter here. The gallery is close enough to Suzhou's central sights to fit into a museum-and-garden itinerary.
