Hongdu Aviation Industry Museum

Hongdu Aviation Industry Corporation (洪都航空) has been manufacturing military and training aircraft in Nanchang since the 1950s, making the city one of China's most historically significant aerospace manufacturing centers. The Hongdu campus in Qingyunpu district includes a small aviation museum with decommissioned aircraft, engines, and exhibits covering the factory's history from Soviet-assisted construction to contemporary jet trainer production.

The museum is not widely promoted to foreign visitors, but independent travelers with an interest in Chinese industrial and military history will find it worthwhile. Aircraft on display outdoors include early jet trainers and variants of the Jian aircraft series. Opening hours and admission procedures should be confirmed in advance; the factory remains an active military-adjacent facility.

A story
Hongdu Aviation Industry Corporation, based in Nanchang, manufactured the Jian-5 — China's first domestically built jet fighter, reverse-engineered from the Soviet MiG-17 — in 1956, just nine years after the Nanchang Uprising gave Jiangxi its revolutionary identity. The same company later developed the L-15 advanced trainer jet used by the PLA Air Force today. An aircraft factory in a "Heroes' City" named for the birth of the Red Army has a certain internal logic.
