The towers of Honggutan new district contain several rooftop and high-floor bars and cocktail lounges that offer the best elevated views of Nanchang. Drinking with the city spread out below — the old Gan River to one side, the planned boulevards of Honggutan in the other direction — gives a useful perspective on the city's dual identity as a revolutionary heritage site and an ambitious modern provincial capital. Prices are higher than elsewhere in the city: cocktails from 60 to 90 yuan.
The most reliable way to find a good rooftop option is to ask at the lobby of any of the mid-range to upscale hotels in Honggutan; several have public-facing bars on their top floors. The view is best from the eastern side of the district, facing back over the river toward the old city.
