Nanchang Confucian Temple

The Nanchang Confucian Temple (ε—ζ˜Œζ–‡εΊ™) dates to the Song dynasty and served for centuries as the site of the imperial civil examination system in Jiangxi. The current structure is a Qing-dynasty reconstruction maintained as a heritage site and occasional venue for cultural events. The main halls, with their tiered rooflines and ornamental stonework, are considerably less visited than the city's revolutionary monuments but architecturally more interesting for their age.

The compound includes a memorial hall to local worthies and scholars, a small exhibition on the examination system, and the obligatory cypress trees said to have been planted centuries ago. Entry is free or low-cost.
