Several concentrated porcelain markets in the Donghu district sell everything from mass-produced blue-and-white tableware to contemporary studio pieces by Jingdezhen artists, at prices considerably below the galleries in Beijing or Shanghai. The Ceramic City market north of the city center has the widest selection.
Buying porcelain requires some knowledge to navigate — reproduction antiques are common, and quality varies wildly at the lower price points. For contemporary pieces by working Jingdezhen potters, the upper floors of the main market tend to have more genuine studio work. Shipping services for fragile items are available at most larger vendors.
