Xinyu is on the Shanghai-Kunming high-speed rail line, with direct trains to Nanchang taking about 30 minutes and to Pingxiang about 20 minutes. Trains to Changsha (Hunan) take around 45 minutes. The high-speed station is north of the city center and connected by taxi and local buses.
The city is most practically visited as a stop on a longer itinerary between Nanchang and points west, or as a day trip from Nanchang. Fairy Lake is about 15 kilometers west of the city center and most easily reached by taxi.
