Changchun's shopping centres along Chunyi Road and in the Eurasia Mall district are the main retail areas. For gifts and souvenirs, the Manchukuo-era cultural associations have generated a small market in commemorative items and local art. The main items worth buying in Changchun are northeast Chinese food products: dried mushrooms from the Changbai forests, ginseng (produced commercially in Jilin Province and sold at various quality levels), pine nut candies, and the various preserved and fermented foods that are the backbone of northeastern cooking.
The antique markets near the city's main parks sometimes have interesting pieces — old Manchukuo-era objects, Qing dynasty items, and the general flow of northeast China's historical material goods. Authenticity is unguaranteed, as in all Chinese antique markets, but browsing is free and occasionally rewarding.
