Sinan Mansions

Cluster of 51 restored Republican-era villas on Sinan Road now used as hotels and restaurants

A cluster of 51 restored Republican-era villas on Sinan Road, converted into a mixed-use complex of restaurants, cafés, and cultural venues around 2010. The buildings — French Concession-style villas from the 1920s to 1940s — have been accurately restored and the complex provides one of the better opportunities in Shanghai to experience the architectural quality of the pre-war residential districts without visiting a private home.

Former residences of Zhou Enlai, Song Qingling, and other Republican and Communist figures are identified in the complex. The restaurants are upscale; the coffee shops are more accessible. The surrounding Sinan Road blocks outside the complex are worth walking for additional surviving villa architecture.
