Eating Out

Eating options in Shannan are centred on Tsetang (Zedang), the prefecture's main town. The food scene is modest — this is a small Chinese administrative city at altitude, not a culinary destination. That said, there is enough variety to eat well during a few days' stay. Tibetan staples (tsampa, butter tea, thukpa noodle soup, momos) are available alongside Chinese dishes; Sichuan-style hotpot and stir-fry places are common. Most guesthouses and hotels can arrange meals.

Outside Tsetang, options are very limited — bring snacks and water for full day trips to sites like Samye or the Chonggye valley.
