The Baisha Murals are among the most important surviving artworks around Lijiang, painted in temple halls during the Ming period when Naxi, Tibetan, and Han influences met along the Tea Horse Road. The figures, deities, and courtly details are fragile, so the experience is quieter than the big Old Town sights.
The murals also make Baisha village more than a cafe-and-courtyard escape from Lijiang. Visit early if you want time with the paintings before tour groups arrive, and combine the stop with a walk through Baisha's old lanes.
