Zhiyun Monastery is a quieter counterweight to Lijiang's crowded old town. The Tibetan Buddhist temple complex sits west of the city near Lashihai, with prayer halls, courtyards, and views that make the surrounding countryside part of the visit. It feels more contemplative than the commercial lanes of Dayan.
Come as part of a Lashihai or village excursion, and allow enough time to slow down once you arrive. The monastery is active, so dress modestly and be discreet with photography. Its value is not spectacle but atmosphere: incense, painted beams, mountain air, and a sense of Lijiang's links toward the Tibetan world.
