Black Dragon Pool (Jade Spring Park)

The Black Dragon Pool is a large, spring-fed pond in Jade Spring Park at the northern edge of the old town, and it frames what is arguably the most photographed view in Yunnan: the Moon Embracing Pavilion reflected in the still water with the snow-capped peaks of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain rising directly behind it. On a clear morning the reflection is near-perfect. On a cloudy day there is nothing to see.

The park itself is pleasant, with willows and pavilions around the pool and the Dongba Culture Research Institute at one end. The Lijiang Museum of Naxi Culture is also located here. Entry to the park is included in the Lijiang Old Town entrance fee (¥80), which visitors are technically required to pay on arrival in the city.
