Mu Palace

Reconstructed Naxi chieftain's palace complex above Lijiang's old town.

Mu Palace is Lijiang's grandest built monument, a reconstructed palace complex associated with the Mu family, the hereditary Naxi rulers who governed the area for centuries. Its halls, courtyards, and rising roofs give a formal counterpoint to the lanes and canals of the old town below.

The reconstruction means it should not be read as untouched antiquity, but it is still valuable for understanding Lijiang's political history and Naxi identity. Climb through the complex for views back over the old town and toward the surrounding hills.
