Ruili's appeal is its border-town character rather than any single monument. The jade markets, the Buddhist pagodas, the Dai and Burmese villages, and the general atmosphere of a place where two countries blend — these are what you come for. Most of the main attractions sit outside the city centre and are best reached by motorbike taxi or rented scooter.
