Bao Chu Pagoda

Slender hilltop pagoda overlooking West Lake, rebuilt 1933, origins from 968 AD

This slender brick pagoda crowns a hill on the northern shore of West Lake. Though it looks ancient enough to be genuinely crumbling, it was last rebuilt in 1933 — the original dates from 968 AD, erected by local courtiers praying for their ruler's safe return from the Song court at Kaifeng. Most easily visited as part of a walk along the Baidi causeway.
