Hangzhou is the best place in China to buy silk and Longjing green tea. The Silk Market (Zhongguo Sichou Cheng) on Xinhua Lu sells fabric by the metre as well as finished goods. For tea, buying directly in Longjing Village gives you better quality and lower prices than the city shops. Qinghefang Old Street near the south gate of the old city is the most atmospheric place for souvenirs, fans, and traditional crafts — touristy but genuinely historic.
