Hangzhou Botanical Garden

Large lakeside botanical garden on the wooded northwest side of West Lake.

Hangzhou Botanical Garden sits in the green belt northwest of West Lake, where the city thins into wooded hills, tea fields, and older temple country. It is less formal than a European botanical garden: part plant collection, part public park, part quiet walking ground for anyone who wants a break from the busiest lakefront causeways.

Come for a slow loop rather than a single spectacle. The bamboo groves, lotus ponds, magnolias, and seasonal flower displays are the draw, and the garden works especially well when paired with nearby Lingyin, the tea museum, or the paths around Yanggong Causeway.
