Spring Dawn at Su Causeway is the poetic name for one of West Lake's Ten Scenes, centred on the long causeway attributed to the Song poet-official Su Dongpo. In spring, peach blossoms and willows turn the walk into one of Hangzhou's most classical images.
The causeway is not only for spring, though that is when the name makes most sense. Walk or cycle it early, before tour groups and traffic noise gather, and use the bridges as pauses to look across the lake toward pagodas, hills, and boats.
