The mosque sits in the heart of Arabahmet, the most attractive surviving quarter of old Lefkoşa, with restored townhouses, jacaranda trees, and quiet lanes. Built in the late 16th century just after the Ottoman conquest, the mosque is a domed cube with a single minaret, sober and well-proportioned.
The Lapidary Museum nearby preserves stone fragments from churches and houses across the north; together, the mosque, the museum, and a walk through the quarter make a good half-hour.
