A cluster of five rock-cut cave temples carved into the low granite hills near the centre of Vijayawada, dating from around the fifth century AD. The caves were hewn during the era of the Vishnukundina kings and contain weathered sculptures of Hindu deities — the figure of Ardhanareeswara in one of the caves is the standout, though time has not been kind to the carvings.
The site is modest and quiet, often empty of visitors. Come for the historical depth rather than spectacle — these are some of the oldest Hindu cave shrines in Andhra Pradesh, predating most of the temple architecture you will see elsewhere in the state.
