Prakasam Barrage

Kilometre-long barrage with evening promenade over the Krishna

A 1,223-metre barrage across the Krishna River, built in the 1950s and named after Andhra Pradesh's first Chief Minister. It serves both as a major irrigation structure and as an accidental promenade — walking or cycling across it in the evening, with the river spreading wide on both sides, is one of the more pleasant things you can do in the city. Bhavani Island is visible from the barrage on the upstream side.
