Warangal Museum

The Warangal Museum, operated by the Archaeological Survey of India, displays sculptures, inscriptions, and architectural fragments recovered from Warangal Fort and the surrounding Kakatiya sites. The collection gives a concentrated introduction to Kakatiya art before heading out to the monuments — many of the pieces are small enough to examine closely in a way that the installed carvings at the Thousand Pillar Temple or the Fort gateways do not allow.

Highlights include carved bracket figures, narrative friezes, decorative panels, and a collection of inscriptions that document the Kakatiya administrative system. The museum is modest in size and can be covered in an hour. It's located near the fort complex, making it a natural starting point for a day exploring the Kakatiya heritage sites. Closed Fridays.

A story
Many of the carvings in the Warangal Museum were recovered from collapsed or vandalized sections of Warangal Fort — sculptures that were buried for centuries and excavated during conservation work. Without the museum, these pieces would be scattered or lost; with it, visitors can see the sculptural vocabulary of Kakatiya art at close range before heading out to the monuments themselves.
