Bijapur (Vijayapura on the railway timetables) is on the main rail line between Solapur and Hubli and is well connected. Daily trains run from Mumbai (around 12 hours), Bangalore (12–14 hours), Hyderabad (8–10 hours), and Pune. The station is about 2 kilometres east of the old city; auto-rickshaws meet the trains.
By road, Bijapur is roughly four hours from Solapur, five from Hubli, and eight from Hyderabad or Bangalore. The state-run KSRTC and a number of private operators run buses on all the main routes; the central bus station is at the south edge of the old city.
The nearest airports are at Belgavi (about 200 km) and Hubli (260 km), both with daily flights from Bangalore and Mumbai.
