One of Gokarna's secondary temples, the Bhadrakali Temple is dedicated to the fierce form of the goddess and sits close to the town centre. It is less prominent than the Mahabaleshwara Temple but draws its own steady stream of devotees, particularly women seeking the goddess's blessing. The deity here is depicted with multiple arms carrying weapons, the typical iconography of Bhadrakali.
The temple is smaller and more intimate than the main Shiva temple, and the rituals performed here — especially in the evening when the image is decorated with flowers and lit by oil lamps — have a particular intensity. It is worth visiting in the early morning or late afternoon when activity is at its height.
As with the main temple, dress modestly and remove shoes before entering the compound. Non-Hindus are generally welcome in the outer areas.
