Beaches

Karwar has several beaches within reach, though the INS Kadamba Naval Base has taken over some of the most scenic stretches of coastline. What remains is quieter and less developed than the beaches across the Goa border to the north.

The main town beach is Rabindranath Tagore Beach, a broad sandy stretch fronted by a promenade and Chaitanya Park. Devbagh Beach, on a narrow spit where the Kali River meets the sea, is particularly scenic and can be reached by boat; it has some basic resort accommodation and is popular with families at weekends. Majali Beach and Tilmati Beach (known for its dark volcanic sand) lie a few kilometres south of town along the coast road. Kurumgad Island, reachable by boat, has a quieter beach near its temple.
