Devbagh Beach

Scenic spit where the Kali River meets the sea, reachable by boat

Devbagh Beach occupies the tip of a narrow, forested spit projecting into the sea where the Kali River meets the Arabian Sea. Getting there requires a short boat ride from the main Karwar waterfront — a 10-minute crossing that is part of the attraction. The beach is quieter than Tagore Beach in town, backed by casuarinas and coconut palms, with views across the river mouth to the Sadashivgad hill.

The Karnataka Tourism Development Corporation operates a small resort here with basic bungalow accommodation, making Devbagh a viable overnight option for those wanting to sleep right on the water. The beach itself is good for swimming in calm weather and draws Karwar families on weekend picnics. Bird life is good along the mangrove edges of the river mouth, particularly in the early morning.

A story
Devbagh sits at the very tip of a narrow peninsula where the Kali River, having wound through 160 kilometres of Western Ghats forest, finally meets the Arabian Sea. The contrast between the brown river water and the blue sea is visible from the beach as the two bodies of water swirl against each other in the shallows.
