The Kozhikode lighthouse stands on a small headland at the north end of the city beach. The current tower, built in the 1970s, replaces an older 19th-century light that was demolished. It opens to visitors most afternoons and the climb up the steel staircase is rewarded with a clean view over the harbour, the beach and the rooftops of the old town.
Combine the visit with a walk along the beach south to the old wooden piers, or out to the breakwater on the north side where you can watch the fishing boats come in.
