Indore is the usual gateway, about 90 km northeast of Mandu by road. Buses and shared vehicles run via Dhar, but a hired car or taxi makes the most sense if you want to cover the ruins efficiently and return the same day.
Dhar is the nearest larger town for onward buses. The final approach climbs onto the plateau, and journey times stretch during the monsoon or after dark.
