Aurangabad has a conservative atmosphere and most of the old-city restaurants are dry. Alcohol is available at the larger hotels and at a handful of licensed bars in the newer parts of the city, but it is not a significant part of the social scene. The real cafe culture here revolves around chai — milky, spiced, heavily sweetened — dispensed from small stalls throughout the day. The area around Nirala Bazaar has the city's best concentration of cafes and juice stalls.
