Castella de Aguada (Fort of the Waterpoint) is a Portuguese fort built in 1640 on the western headland of Bandra, overlooking the mouth of Mahim Bay. Though now a ruin, the fortified walls and bastions remain and the site has been landscaped as a public garden. The views from the battlements across the sea toward Worli and south toward Marine Drive are among the finest in Mumbai, particularly at sunset.
The fort is a popular weekend destination for Bandra residents and is busiest at sunset when crowds gather to watch the light change over the Sea Link and the Arabian Sea. The adjacent promenade gardens are a pleasant place to sit. Vendors selling bhutta (roasted corn) and chaat cluster at the entrance in the evenings.
