St. Andrew's Church Bandra

St. Andrew's Church in Bandra is one of Mumbai's oldest Catholic churches, founded by Portuguese Augustinian friars in 1575. The current building dates from the early 17th century and is built in the Portuguese Baroque style with thick lime-plastered walls, a curved gable facade, and an ornate interior. The churchyard contains some of Mumbai's oldest European gravestones.

The church serves the East Indian Catholic community of Bandra and is still in active use. Mass is conducted in Marathi, Konkani, and English on Sundays when the church fills with the neighbourhood's Catholic families. The building's historical significance is reflected in its Grade I heritage listing. The area around the church — old Bandra's lanes and fishing village character — is most accessible on foot.
