The main market in the centre of town is the best place to find handicrafts produced by the surrounding hill communities. Woven textiles — shawls, wraps, and cloth in patterns specific to individual Kuki clans — sit alongside cane baskets, mats, and utility items made by village craftspeople. Quality is uneven but the more skilled weavers produce work of real distinction. This is not a tourist market; the vendors are selling to locals and prices are correspondingly reasonable. Come in the morning when it is busiest.
