Goindwal Sahib is one of the major Sikh pilgrimage stops within reach of Amritsar, associated above all with Guru Amar Das, the third Sikh Guru. Its focal point is the baoli, a covered stepwell with 84 steps, where pilgrims descend beneath the gurdwara complex in a rhythm of prayer and movement.
It is a quieter and more devotional visit than the Golden Temple, and that is part of its value. Come respectfully dressed, allow time for the gurdwara rather than treating it as a roadside add-on, and consider combining it with other Sikh sites in the Tarn Taran district if you have a car for the day.
