Amritsar is a good place to buy Punjabi phulkari embroidery — the bright geometric needlework used on dupattas and shawls. Hall Bazaar, running from the railway station toward the Golden Temple, is the main shopping street. The lanes of the old city around Katra Jaimal Singh are crowded with fabric shops and goldsmiths. For spices, dried fruit, and local pickle, the market around the Golden Temple complex is hard to beat.
