Jait Sagar Lake

Jait Sagar is a peaceful lake on the northern edge of Bundi, a short distance from the town centre. Its calm waters reflect the surrounding Aravalli hills and the white facade of Sukh Mahal on the far bank. The lake is edged with lotus plants that bloom in season, and herons and kingfishers work the shallows throughout the year.

The road around the lake makes for a good early morning or evening walk. There's no formal tourist infrastructure here — just a pleasant natural setting that provides a calm counterpoint to the monuments of the old city. Combine a visit with Sukh Mahal, which sits on the lake's western shore.

A story
Jait Sagar is a natural lake that has been modified over centuries into its current form. During the monsoon, it fills dramatically and the surrounding hills turn bright green — the contrast with the white Sukh Mahal on its shore is striking. In winter, migratory birds from Central Asia use the lake as a stopover, and locals fish from its banks in the early morning.
