Fateh Prakash Palace sits within the huge Chittorgarh Fort complex and helps fill in the royal side of the fortress story. Its courtyards and palace rooms are less instantly dramatic than the great towers, but they give a clearer sense of how the rulers of Mewar occupied this hilltop world.
The palace is also useful as a pause in a fort visit that can otherwise become a blur of walls, gates, and shrines. Give it time for the museum displays and architectural details, then continue to the Victory Tower and the older temples nearby.
