Naulakha Bawdi

Historic stepwell in Dungarpur, part of the town’s water-architecture heritage.

Naulakha Bawdi is one of Dungarpur's historic stepwells, built in the practical but highly decorative water-architecture tradition of Rajasthan. Stepwells were infrastructure first, but their staircases, landings, and stone detailing often turned water storage into civic architecture.

The site is modest compared with the famous stepwells of northern Gujarat or Abhaneri, yet it adds useful depth to a Dungarpur visit. Pair it with Juna Mahal and the lakeside palace area to see how the town's built heritage moved between royal display and everyday survival in a dry landscape.
