Nahargarh Wildlife Sanctuary

Dry Aravalli sanctuary wrapped around the hills above Jaipur

Nahargarh Wildlife Sanctuary protects the scrubby Aravalli hills around Nahargarh Fort, giving Jaipur a rough green edge just beyond the old city. The landscape is dry, stony, and thorny for much of the year, but that is part of its appeal: this is not manicured palace country, it is the semi-wild ridge that explains why the fort was such a strong lookout.

Most travelers experience the sanctuary indirectly on the road or walk up to Nahargarh Fort, with views over Jaipur opening between the trees. Come early if you want birds, cooler air, and a less traffic-heavy climb. Treat it as a nature-and-viewpoint add-on to the fort rather than a stand-alone safari.
